As the founder and co-chief investment officer of Weitz Investment Management, Wally has spent over three decades putting his instinct for opportunity to work for shareholders. Influenced by the value investing model of Benjamin Graham and Warren Buffett, Wally aims to produce outstanding results as manager of Partners III Opportunity Fund and co-manager of Partners Value Fund and Hickory Fund. After earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics at Carleton College in 1970, Wally spent three years in New York doing security analysis before coming to Omaha and joining Chiles, Heider & Co. in 1973. There, he spent 10 years as an analyst and portfolio manager until he started Weitz Investment Management in 1983. Wally is on the Board of Trustees for Carleton College and serves on various other non-profit boards. He has been a CFA® charterholder since 1977.

Bradley P. Hinton, CFA

Brad joined Weitz Investment Management in 2001 as a research analyst. He became director of research in 2004 and was appointed co-CIO in April 2017. His experience in equity analysis, fixed income credit research and portfolio management enables him to see opportunities from multiple angles. He became sole manager of Balanced Fund in August 2005 and co-manages Value Fund and Partners Value Fund. Brad holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Nebraska and a master's from Dartmouth. Prior to joining the Firm, Brad was a trading associate and debt manager for ConAgra Foods, a fixed income investment manager for Principal Financial Group and a staff analyst for the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City. Brad has been a CFA® charterholder since 1997.

Thomas D. Carney, CFA

Tom joined Weitz Investments in 1995 as a fixed income analyst. His conservative instincts provide a notable advantage in managing our fixed income portfolios. Tom is the portfolio manager of Nebraska Tax-Free Income Fund and co-manages Core Plus Income Fund, Short Duration Income Fund and Ultra Short Government Fund. Tom began his investment career in 1982 at Chiles, Heider & Co., Inc., a regional brokerage firm in Omaha, where he held several positions. In 1986, he became a municipal securities professional with Smith Barney in Omaha. Four years later, he completed his Bachelor of Science degree in finance at the University of Nebraska Omaha. He has been a CFA® charterholder since 1999 and was the president of the CFA Society of Nebraska from 2005-2006.

Andrew S. Weitz
Director of Equity Research, Portfolio Manager

Drew first came to Weitz Investment Management in 1998, while a student at Carleton College, working in various departments including client services, operations and research. After graduating in 2002 with a bachelor's degree in computer science, Drew moved to Chicago in 2004 where he worked as a research associate and research analyst for Ariel Investments. In 2008, Drew returned to Omaha and Weitz Investment Management as an equity research analyst. He became co-manager of Hickory Fund in December 2011 and was appointed director of equity research in April 2017 where he oversees the Weitz equity research team and process. Drew volunteers on the advisors group for OneWorld Community Health Centers and serves on the boards of The UNION for Contemporary Art and Carleton College's Alumni Annual Fund. 

David A. Perkins, CFA

Dave became co-manager of the Weitz Value Fund in December 2011. Dave enjoys the ongoing challenge of finding new investment opportunities for our clients, and he thrives amid the camaraderie of the Weitz Investment Management team. Before joining the Firm in 2004, Dave honed his analytical skills at McCarthy Group Asset Management. He has a Bachelor of Science degree in business systems from Taylor University in Upland, IN. Dave has been a CFA® charterholder since 2009.

Nolan dedicates his time and skills to identifying new opportunities for our fixed income portfolios. He joined Weitz Investment Management in November 2011 and co-manages Core Plus Income Fund, Short Duration Income Fund and Ultra Short Government Fund. Previously, he performed financial modeling and due diligence on leveraged buyout transactions for Wells Fargo Bank in San Francisco. From 2004-2007 he worked as a commercial real estate research analyst for Woodmen of the World Life Insurance Society in Omaha. Nolan holds a bachelor's degree in real estate and land use economics and a master's in business administration from the University of Nebraska Omaha.

Barton arrived at Weitz Investment Management in 2007 with a passion for investing, intellectual honesty and critical thinking. His work as a research analyst gives him the opportunity to explore different companies and industries on a daily basis. His background includes working as a research analyst at Oak Value Capital Management in Durham, NC, and Trilogy Capital Management in Kansas City, MO. He also spent several years as a mergers and acquisitions investment banker at George K. Baum & Company and a CPA at Deloitte and Touche, LLC. Barton graduated from the University of Missouri with a bachelor's degree in accounting and Washington University with a master's degree in finance. He has been a CFA® charterholder since 1999.

Yana Morgan, CFP

In her role as regional director at Weitz Investment Management, Yana has many opportunities to work with both current and prospective clients through several of the firm's distribution channels. She is also responsible for maintaining the firm's institutional account financial reporting and communication functions. Before joining the company in 2000 as a client services representative, Yana was director of donor services for the Omaha Community Foundation. She also has a background in politics. She served in Washington, D.C. as a legislative assistant for U.S. Sen. Chuck Hagel and spent several years managing and fundraising for various Nebraska campaigns. Yana has a bachelor's in psychology from Southern Connecticut State University. She holds Series 7, 6 and 63 licenses and is also a Certified Financial Planner.

Kelly Kraft, CIMA

Kelly has decades of industry and relationship management experience. She joined Weitz Investment Management as director of national accounts in 2015 where she spent over two years building out the firm's national account infrastructure. In 2017, Kelly was promoted to vice president and head of sales. Prior to joining Weitz, Kelly spent more than 18 years as a strategic account manager at Lord Abbett. Before that, she was a regional manager for Nuveen Investments, Eastern division. Kelly has a bachelor's degree in political science from Illinois State University and holds the CIMA® designation. She is also a member of IMCA.
